As we navigate the rocky pathways of our work, we need the skills and qualities of both a warrior and an artist.
Warriors are undaunted—unwavering in their commitment to equity and social justice. As this purpose is challenged by current events, power dynamics, and deeply entrenched systems, the warriors inside keep us focused on the work. Artists are ingenious; they design the pathways to get us there. They find the openings and make the connections that change the course of our work, elevating its impact.
But individually, we can’t always be both. That’s when we have to look across the room or into the corner of our Zoom call, to find that warrior or artist that balances our strengths. Develop both of these traits within your team and throughout your organization and you become unstoppable in pursuit of your mission. When we welcome each other into our missions, our purposes, our endeavors, we get to the heart of what it means to be courageous and we nurture what makes us whole.
Cultivating our warriors and artists allows us to take on bigger challenges and make deeper commitments to bringing about positive change.
