Announcing the Opening of Our New York Office! Announcing the Opening of Our New York Office! Creation In Common is proud to announce the opening of our New York Office. Back in May, 2007, when Founding Partner Padraic Lillis initiated conversations with some colleagues about conducting a free Brand Needs Assessment, a full-day retreat followed. More requests have been coming in every day. One of our patented Kick-Start Your Branding Effort workshops was scheduled in September and our East Coast office is up and running. When Creation In Common was born back in 2002, our plan was to start something amazing, a new venture; something unique that would marry our love of theatre with our business expertise. We initially based our work out of Minnesota because two of our founding partners live there and have worked there for over 10 years. In the past five years, our work has taken us throughout the entire state of Minnesota, as well as Montana, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Washington D.C., Illinois, New York and Texas. At our annual staff retreat last January, we decided to put forth the goal of establishing another central office outside of the Twin Cities. "We could think of no better place to unveil our special brand of combining best business practices with theatrical processes than the Big Apple," says Managing Partner Carlo Cuesta, "Besides, it is also where Padraic calls home." From our first job building the marketing plan for Pillsbury United Communities' daycare services to traveling across the state teaching arts organizations how to build their audiences, from researching the healthcare needs of citizens in Eastern Montana, to bringing a roomful of corporate executives together in support of the arts and culture in North Texas; with each project we continue to seek new knowledge and use it to deepen what the act of creation in common stands for. Says Padraic, "It is incredibly rewarding to share with one part of the county what we've learned from another." Creation In Common is very excited to share our work with and to learn from the New York non-profit community. CIC Partner Nominated for Theatre Award Creation In Common extends its congratulations to Founding Partner Padraic Lillis for being nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre (IT) Award for his direction of The Dirty Talk. The New York IT Awards works to expand audience awareness and appreciation of the full New York experience by recognizing some of the best work being done by the estimated 40,000 artists working in Off-Off-Broadway each year. At the end of the theatre season, a high-profile awards ceremony celebrates this entire community while honoring some of the most extraordinary work of the year. Written by Michael Puzzo, The Dirty Talk was a critical and popular hit at the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival and was remounted in Fall 2006 by the Spare Change Productions at Center Stage. Neal Genzliner of the New York Times wrote that The Dirty Talk is a “delicious two hander … as rewarding a trip off the beaten path you'll make... Padraic Lillis has the two actors in perfect sync.” In addition to his directing credits, Padraic is also a playwright and member of the LAByrinth Theatre Company. Working Together to Preserve a Natural Wonder In 1806 when explorer John Colter left the Lewis & Clark expedition to trap furs along the Yellowstone and Upper Missouri rivers, he stumbled into a natural wonder. Colter was possibly the first white man to venture into Jackson Hole – a 48-mile-long valley surrounded by high mountains and includes the towns of Jackson, Kelly, Moose, Moran, Wilson and Teton Village in Wyoming. Since then, Jackson Hole has become a popular destination spot. In Jackson Hole travelers can experience all the grandeur that nature has to offer - alpine meadows, clear rivers and streams, expansive skies and abundant wildlife. But like many destination spots attracting tourists from all over the country, Jackson Hole is an area facing many threats. Thus, the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance was born. Established in 1979, the Alliance is a knowledgeable and respected voice for Jackson Hole dedicated to responsible land stewardship to ensure that human activities are in harmony with the area’s irreplaceable wildlife, scenic and other natural resources. Among their many successes towards this effort, the Alliance has:
Since 1979, the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance has grown to approximately 2,000 members. In a typical year, local residents donate more than 2,500 volunteer hours to the Alliance's work. It is interesting to note that while most of the organization’s membership lives and works in Jackson Hole; many live in other parts of the country. Together they are stepping up to the challenges of protecting Jackson Hole’s character and natural resources and preserving a piece of our country’s heritage. “It’s a remarkable place and a remarkable organization,” says Creation In Common’s managing partner Carlo Cuesta. “There is a strong magnetic power to the valley that is a draw for so many people to live and play there that makes striking a balance between development and perpetuating the area’s unique character the most important community issue. I’m very excited to work with the staff and board of the Alliance on framing this issue and building a collaboration among key stakeholders to help ensure that the power that is Jackson Hole is cared for and maintained for future generations.” Creation In Common Website Recognized at the 2006 Ad Fed Award Show We are thrilled to announce that Creation In Common's website was the recipient of a 2006 Ad Fed award, recognizing the best in advertising and design at The Show, the Advertising Federation of Minnesota's annual awards gala featuring the best work from the Twin Cities' creative community, held on November 10. Two awards were presented to Synthetic Kit, designers of the website. The Show Silver Award was presented for Digital Media – Self Promotion (individuals, small business) and The Show Merit Award was presented for Digital Media – Corporation Promotion (internet, intranet, extranet). The Synthetic Kit design team of Todd Mitchell, Courtney Remes (creative directors), Maggie Pearthree (producer) and Natalia Berglund (designer) were honored at the event. In designing the website, it was Synthetic Kit's goal to tell the Creation In Common story while highlighting our facilitation process, featuring a breadth of knowledge, and acting as a resource for our clients. The animated design reflects both the urban and rural natures of our clients' communities by using a variety of changing textual elements, illustrating how Creation In Common creates unity and growth in any situation. We couldn't be more pleased. Over 95 Twin Cities' entities, made up of agencies, businesses and schools, entered over 1,400 entries into the Ad Fed competition, resulting in a total of 43 agencies awarded recognition for outstanding creative work. The show's judges were a national panel. The Advertising Federation of Minnesota (Ad Fed) is a non-profit professional trade association affiliated with the national American Advertising Federation. Bright Stars Wins National Award The McKnight Foundation has been named the 2006 Wilmer Shields Rich Silver Award Winner for Excellence in Communications for its publication of Bright Stars. The report, written and researched by Creation In Common, documents how the arts play a critical role in rural community development. The awards program is sponsored by the Council on Foundations to recognize effective communications efforts that increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs. Bright Stars was selected because of its strong themes, compelling storytelling, and hopeful attitude regarding the impact of the arts on economically challenged towns. The Council cited the publication of the report as evidence of The McKnight Foundation’s strong commitment to public accountability and effective communications that serve as models of excellence for other grantmakers nationwide. The award will be presented at the 57th Annual Conference of the Council on Foundations in Pittsburgh on Sunday, May 7, 2006. |
